June News: The Joys of Summer at Your Doorstep

Summer has officially arrived, but don’t be too quick to reach for your shorts and sandals - it could be another wet one. While we can’t guarantee dry weather and barbeques, Queen Street Gallery is here to bring the carefree joys of summer to your doorstep, with news of exhibitions, workshops and art fairs. Stick around for your monthly update on what’s new with Queen Street’s budding art scene!

Corgis and Coronets Auction

In celebration of the Platinum Jubilee, we thought it would be a great idea to combine the artistic talent of the Queen’s Street community with a love for all things pedigree. The Corgis and Coronets exhibition, which opened in Studio 40 on May 21st, is a collection of work submitted by artists from across the globe, all responding to the unique dog-loving theme. Culminating in a final auction of the artwork on Sunday June 26th, there’s still time for you to have a chance to win an original artwork, while contributing to the welfare of neglected animals across the UK. Come along and get involved! Whether you're a first-timer or an exhibition veteran, we’ll be ready with an open door. The auction will take place on Sunday 26th of June at 2pm, Studio 40, Neath. Anyone is welcome to place a bid.

Current Exhibitions

Over in Queens Street Gallery, you might have had the chance to catch two current exhibitions, which opened on June the 4th, and continue until the 25th. ‘Energy, Force, and Form’ is an exhibition combining the work of Sandra Wintle and Tracey Lewis. Located in the heart of the South Wales Coast, Wintle and Lewis take inspiration from the vital energy of the sea, and this awe-inspired relationship cuts through in both artist’s work. If you're looking to bring a touch of the outdoors into your home, a wall art piece by Wintle or Lewis could be the perfect way to brighten up your interior.

In the Cwtch gallery, ‘The Way I See It’ by Maureen Carlson is a collection of botanical close-ups, still life and floral studies. Celebrating the majestic quality of natural form, Carlson’s glorious canvases, with her expert combination of bright pigments and dynamic compositions, possess a rich quality reminiscent of Georgia O’Keefe. Get yourself down to Queens Street Gallery for an exclusive view of Carlson’s work - the perfect way to kick-start your summer.

Summer Workshops

If you’re looking for a hands-on, communal way to spend your weekends, why not try out one of the many workshops on offer at Studio 40? Some of our upcoming workshops include Lino Printing with Diana Brook, Beginners Photography with Nev Brewer, and Seasonal Flower Arrangement with Kirsten Tanner. Every workshop is fully equipped with all the materials you need, so you don’t have to worry about getting in the supplies - we do all that for you.

Penarth Art Fair Announcement

We aim to get our artists exposure across the country, and the Penarth Art Fair is part of a host of strategies we’re employing to spread the word on the variety of skills. We’re counting the days till we take a proud stand at our Penarth stall, as we display the talent of a huge range of our established names, including Stephanie Redfern, Colin Davies and Bert Evans. Support our local artists, while taking the opportunity to explore the historical town of Penarth in all its Victorian splendour. Taking place between the 8th-10th July, this is a great way to discover a variety of practising artists from the local area.
