Artist in the Spotlight: Geoff Brown

Geoff Brown is a fine artist graduating from the Camberwell School of Art in London in 1970.

He has had solo exhibitions at Chapter Arts in Cardiff as well as Smith's Gallery and 5 Dryden Street Gallery in London.

He has also exhibited in numerous group exhibitions including Chenil Gallery Chelsea as well as the more recent Wales Portrait Award touring exhibition which included the Williamson Art Gallery Liverpool, St David's Hall Cardiff and Theatre Clwyd in North Wales.

Geoff lives in his home town of Ammanford and has a long association with Carmarthen having been Head of Art at the old Girls Grammar School and at QE Maridunum School from 1978 to 2003, From 2004 - 13 he was a part time Art tutor for Aberystwyth University.

He is currently a part time tutor with WEA Cymru while increasingly concentrating on his own work as an artist. Collections of his work include a painting in the Carmarthenshire County collection in Carmarthen.

His current work ranges from representational/near photo realist through to abstract process paintings. The representational work often uses every day subject matter like urban landscape, townscape and traditional figurative compositions.

The abstract works have no direct connections to realism and are produced with a strong element of process and colour for it's own sake.
