ARTISTS / Nan Edwards

I began painting in retirement.
I was accepted at Leeds Art college after leaving school but was unable to attend for financial reasons— to be able to pursue this now is a joy.

I enjoy painting landscapes, often with a narrative element.
I work from my photographs with either watercolour, gouache or acrylics and will often repeat an idea several times , experimenting with composition and varying colour combinations before deciding on the final painting.
Changes of light and differing textures are always an added challenge.

‘Geese Grazing’ was a one-off, a happy accident; the beauty of watercolour is it takes you to unexpected places.
I have exhibited in Birmingham, and also in Patchings with two awards from ‘The Artist’.
A watercolour painting of Aberaeron was selected for the Sue Ryder exhibition in the Mall gallery London.
Creating a painting, can be frustrating and hard work, however to achieve a result, sometimes quite different from the original idea, is both exciting and rewarding.

I work a lot on my own but find so much enjoyment and inspiration from friends and colleagues.
I am very proud to make a contribution to the Queen Street Gallery exhibition.
