The Art of Experimenting
A selection of paintings by Christine Moore.
3rd - 31st August 2024
The paintings on display represent the experimental nature of my recent artwork.
My interest in art has been a lifelong passion going back to my early childhood, where I always doodled, drew and painted on any surface I could. I have fond memories of drawing with chalk on the local pavements and the backs of my wardrobes!
I have a few long-standing personal passions that influence my art, the countryside, Welsh culture, heritage and language.
I have always loved the countryside and being outdoors I did manage to complete a HND in Landscape Science at Pencoed Agricultural College in the 1990’s and subsequently completed six years of OU courses in sciences and ecology. I realise this passion daily with my large wild garden, with fruit trees and bushes that feed the local bird population. It is a yearly cat and mouse with the cherries, window twitching daily, I see them ripening, bowl in the ready…. trying to harvest before the blackbirds, I always fail!
Even though my art is always influenced by the flowers, trees, birds and bees that surround me, painting people has always been my preference.
I have used oils for years and I have recently started to experiment with gold leaf, my love affair with shiny metal goes back to my childhood, as the daughter of a scrap merchant, copper, bronze and gold were never far from my grasp for as long as I can remember. We even had a pot of mercury under the kitchen sink! and I was fascinated by the way mercury separates into little balls that danced across the floor! Today I still wear too much gold I am sure! I love Klimt and Russian icons…
